One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Blog 1
In the book One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey. The story takes place in a mental hospital, the main character begins by describing the patients, and the workers of the mental hospital. In pg.16 the author writes, "But there are some of us Chronics that the staff made a couple mistakes on years back." From reading this and how he has described the atmosphere of the hospital its pretty clear the hospitals main focus is not on the patients. In the quote above the word mistake is used to describe the outcome of the treatments being used on the patients has had on them. Its intresting how most mental institutions in real life or the ones portrayed in other books/movies are always almost seen as a place worse than prison. I find this ironic becuase mental institions are created in order to help people with mental problems but it seems like most of the instutions have the opposite effect on them
